MAJOR TOURNAMENT NEWS

REGISTRATION NOW OPEN

for

Spring "Shamble" - Saturday, April 25

All GGS members are invited to participate in the first event of our 2026 season... the Spring "Shamble" at Arrowhead Pointe.

Invite up to three guests or register with other members to form a four-man team. The format for the tournament will be a handicapped "Shamble" in which everyone plays their own ball from the point of their team's best drive.

Each player will receive 50% of their course handicap and the best net scores will count as follows: Hole 1 = 1ball, Hole 2 = 2 balls, Hole 3 = 3 balls.

Teams repeat 1, 2, 3 each three holes, i.e. 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3

You may bring as many guests as you would like, partner with other members, or sign up as a single. The Tournament Committee will gladly help pair up competitive teams.

The committee will need a USGA Handicap Index for each guest. If a guest does not have an established handicap the tournament committee will assign one.
.

The Spring One-Day Shamble will be played at Arrowhead Pointe at Lake Richard B Russell on Saturday, April 25. Tee times will begin at 10:30 AM.

ANNUAL MEETING

RECAP

2026 Annual Meeting & Awards Presentation

We kicked off 2026 (our 24th year!) with a fun evening at Carolina Golf Club of Botany Woods. The event was well attended by old members, and some new faces. If you werent able to make it, we missed you. We had some drinks, some GREAT food prepared by Deb Bouts of Sun Belly Cafe (yes, Trent's wife), and a presentation of the 2025 results.

Here are some key takeaways:

1) PLAYER OF THE YEAR - We are pleased to announce that Marty Henson was our POY for 2025! You can view the complete standings here: Player Of The Year. Marty received our special POY award which includes a custom-made GGS wooden valuables case... including a custom engraved POY wooden bag tag and ball marker. Congratulations Marty!

2) MEMBERSHIP FEE - Due to a good financial year for the club our membership fee for 2026 will remain at $110.

PLEASE NOTE: Deadline for GGS to renew our individual members' GHIN accounts is February 20. Please avoid disappointment... we will have no choice but to inactivate any accounts not paid by that date.

3) JUNIOR MEMBERSHIP - The club has decided to offer a "Junior" membership to anyone 25 and under who would like to join. The membership fee for a Junior Membership will be $55 and include a GHIN handicap account.

4) SPECIAL REQUEST: PLAY DAYS HOSTED BY PRIVATE CLUB MEMBERS - We request that our private club members please consider scheduling games at their courses for GGS member play days. Hosts could start with a couple of tee times, then adjust going forward based on the response. Once a game is scheduled, the host should send the details to Michael Whitaker... he will then send an email blast to the membership and post a signup sheet on our website. These could be really fun events and would help the private-club member bring extra revenue to their club. A win-win for everyone!

5) 2026 EVENT SCHEDULE - The 2026 event schedule is now posted on our website. It's possible that a few of the dates will be tweaked due to course availability, but this is our starting plan. Mark your calendars now for our first event of the year... the Spring Shamble at Arrowhead Pointe, April 18th! And why not ask a guest to join you for this fun format on a wonderful track along the shores of Lake Russell. More on that below...

6) NEW EVENT or TRIP IDEAS? - Do you have an idea for a new event or trip that you think GGS members might enjoy? If yes, send in the idea... we will work up the details, post it on our website, and send out an email blast to determine member interest. The more the better!

7) DRIVE FOR NEW MEMBERS! - We are asking all current members to invite a minimum of ONE friend to join our club this year. If you have any friends or colleagues who might be interested in joining GGS please invite them soon... perhaps to play the Spring Shamble in April. This is a great format for a new member or guest because everyone on the team ends up contributing to the outcome. And the course is a gem! Great value for your hard-earned golf dollar.

8) NEW MEMBER "AMBASSADORS" - As you all know, new candidates must be sponsored by two current members. We sometimes have candidates who don't know any current members. Therefore, we are seeking a few members who would be willing to take candidates out for a game and/or possibly sponsor them for membership. The Club will cover the cost of the candidate's golf fee. Please let us know via email if you are willing to volunteer for a GGS Ambassador position.

9) EVENT MANAGERS (Tournament Committee) - We are seeking interested members to serve as "Event Manager" for several of our events this year (see the event schedule on our website). These Event Managers will constitute our Tournament Committee. An "Event Manager" is responsible for lining up the course and working out details for cost, tee times, food & beverage, and any other particulars as required. Once these details are secured, Michael Whitaker will take that information and post it to our website for registration. If you would like to volunteer, please let us know as soon as possible. Thanks!

10) 25th ANNIVERSARY TRIP? - 2027 will be the 25th anniversary year of the Greenville Golfing Society and we would like to do something special to celebrate this milestone. One idea is to organize a golfing trip to Scotland, hosted by Michael Whitaker. It would probably take place in July or August of 2027 and cover a week or two of golf and sightseeing. The group would probably be limited to a maximum of eight members... maybe more depending on the interest. We will poll the membership for interest in this trip soon. If you have any ideas to celebrate our 25th anniversary, please forward them along!

As always, if you have questions, or need additional information, just send us a note.

Looking forward to more birdies from you all in 2026!
